Juanita Dewey Lee Elston, known to her friends as Nita, was 91 years old when she passed away, quietly in her sleep, on January 3, 2024 at Stewart F. Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast, Florida.

A memorial service will be held at the gravesite on Monday, January 22, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Volusia Memorial Park (located at 548 N Nova Rd, Ormond Beach, FL 32174.) For further directions, please call (386) 673-5373.

She is survived by Stephen Elston, Mary Beth Date, Maura Regan and Sue Jones and predeceased by her husband, Robert Elston, and her brothers James William Lee, Robert E. Lee and Thomas Lee.

Nita was born in Wichita Kansas on March 3, 1932. She graduated from Mainland High School in 1950 and received her teaching degree from the University of Florida in 1955. She taught first grade and is still loved and remembered by many of her students. She met and married her husband, Robert Elston, a widower and father of four in 1965. A year later, she adopted his four children. She was a long-standing member of the Volusia Junior League and became a member of the League Sustainers. She loved quilting and worked for years on a quilt that has become a family heirloom.

She was a generous person who supported a wide variety of local and national charity programs.

Her family and friends will miss her wide smiles and cheerful silly jokes.
