Joyce Marie Burdette, 75 went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ in heaven on Thursday, December 4, 2014. She was the wife of John David Burdette, Sr., sister of Gloria Carter and daughter of Benjamin Joseph Harding and Ethel New Year Shifflett who preceded her. Family was everything to Joyce and she was the glue that held it together. Her hands labored ceaselessly cooking and caring for her family. She carried the threads of the fabric of unweaving traditions, relationships and legacy. Her nurturing extended to all of God's creatures including animals. She spent many years helping in her church and community and enjoying time with friends and family. She was blessed with a large family of six children that included the Rev. Phyllis B. Gregory of Enterprise, Fla, Mary L. Burdette who proceeded her, Brenda S. Hamilton of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., John D. Burdette, Jr. of Shepherdstown, WV, Judy L. Slusher of Bunker Hill, WV, Benjamin J. Burdette of Martinsburg, WV, 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great- great grandchild. A Memorial Service will be held in Florida at One Kingdom Fellowship, 777 Deltona Blvd. Deltona Florida on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at 2 pm and a Second Memorial Service and committal service will be held at Boyds Presbyterian Church, 19901 White Ground Road, Boyds, MD on Sunday, December 28 at 2 pm. Rev. Mark Gregory will be officiating. In lieu of flowers a contribution can be made in Joyce's name to Linden Lea Assisted Living, 1180 Jackson Ranch Road, Deland, FL 32724 where she resided in her last days.
