Obituary

Josephine Chavez , beloved mother and wife, died Thursday, March 3rd, 2022 at her home in Ormond Beach, Florida. She had recently turned 77 years old.

A lifelong reader who shared her love of books with her granddaughter Lindsey. Josephine (Jo) was born Josefina Cleo Romero in 1945 in Trinidad, Colorado to parents Filiberto and Eloisa Romero. Jo was not expected to survive being born due to a very difficult pregnancy for her mother. Jo grew up healthy, happy, and very smart. By the time Josephine was 5 yrs old she was attending Trinidad Area Catholic schools.

Her father moved the family to Denver when Jo was 18. While attending a Halloween party in 1965 she met the love of her life and future husband of 56 years, Patrick Chavez. That marriage produced three beautiful children whom they loved dearly.

After putting off college, Jo graduated from Regis University with a Bachelor of Science when she was 41.

Patrick and Jo loved traveling around the country, whether it be in several of the small airplanes they owned or in one of their numerous travel trailers.

Pat and Jo moved to Pompano Beach, Florida in 1997 where Jo worked as a Records Manager for the city of Coral Springs. Jo went on to become the City Clerk of Coral Springs, a job that she absolutely loved until retiring in 2015.

Jo was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2017 where she underwent extreme cancer treatments including a very difficult surgery called a "Whipple Procedure". Jo and her husband Patrick were very grateful for the extra years she was given to enjoy traveling and seeing the country with her daughter, Martina, and Son-in-Law, Scott.

Jo was a devout Catholic, who believed upon her passing that she would be delivered straight into the arms of her savior Jesus Christ. Jo is survived by her husband, Patrick; her three children, Patrick Jr., Martina, and Paul; her grandchildren, Joshua, Jasmine, Noah, Levi, Zach, and Lindsey; and numerous great-grandchildren as well as her beloved sister, Delores, whom she called "Sister".

Josephine died surrounded by her loving family and her two constant companions- a pair of Miniature Pinschers she rescued named Spice and Kahlua.
