DR. JOSEPH WALTER WEAVER born in Atlanta GA in 1913 a long time resident of Coronado CA died on December 8 2009 in Ormond Beach FL at the age of 96. Married to Mary Price Woodroe in 1934 a graduate of Duke University undergraduate (1934) and Tulane School of Medicine (1937) Joe was called up for active duty at the end of his 3 year residency and fellowship in internal medicine at University of Georgia Hospital in Augusta in 1942. He was commissioned into the Regular Navy and became a Flight Surgeon. He was Medical Officer for three Aircraft Carriers (Mindoro CVE 121 Valley Forge CV 45 and Hornet CV 12); medical Officer of several Naval Air Stations; in the Bureau of Medicine & Surgery as Chief of the Aerospace Medical Division; Commanding Officer Naval Aerospace Medical Institute Pensacola; and finally as Medical Officer Naval Air Force Pacific Fleet; and retired in 1972 to Coronado CA. He was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal Meritorious Service Medal along with several Unit Citations and Campaign Ribbons.

After retirement he instructed sailing at the Navy Sailing Club. He was member of the Coronado Council of the Navy League (Secy. 1973); The Retired Officers Association (Pres. 1976); Rotary Club of Coronado (Phil Harris Fellow & Pres. 1981-82); Central Committee of the California Republican Party (1982-84); and German Research Association (Pres. 1985-87). In his spare time he and his wife Mary traveled and walked upon all continents of the earth including Antartica.

In 2005 he and Mary moved to Florida to be nearer their children Joseph William (Bill) Weaver and James (Jim) Woodroe Weaver and their families in their final years. He is survived by his wife Mary their two sons four grandsons and four great grandsons. A child of the 1920's a teenager and young adult in the Depression a husband father and Naval Officer through WWII Korea and the Cold War Joe embodied the values and strengths of the Greatest Generation and will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
