Joseph M. Sciortino beloved husband father and grandfather passed away February 1 2009 after a long battle with cancer.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday February 5 2009 at 11:30 a.m. at The Church of the Epiphany 201 Lafayette Street Port Orange FL 32127. There will be a visitation at Lohman Funeral Home Port Orange on Wednesday evening February 4 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Joseph is survived by his devoted wife Marilyn his daughter Marybeth and her husband Craig Bluhm his son John and his wife Lisa and six cherished grandchildren. He obtained his bachelor's degree and M.B.A from Louisiana State University and then served his country with honor as an officer in the United States Army.

After 20-year career with the H.J. Heinz Company in New Orleans Atlanta and Pittsburgh culminating as the company's General Sales Manager he became President and CEO of Sysco Food Services of South Florida in Miami a position he held for two decades until his retirement in 1997. During that time he also served as chairman of Sysco Corporation's Director's Council. He was a highly regarded speaker and author on the subject of business ethics and treating business as a vocation. He was invited to India to give the first ever conference there on business ethics.

He was a passionate supporter of a number of worthy charities including serving as a founding director of Covenant House of Ft. Lauderdale and Daily Bread Community Food Bank of South Florida. He served on the board of St. John Vianney Seminary and on the board of Food for the Poor. Following his retirement in Daytona Beach he continued to devote his life to his Catholic faith to his family to the Church of the Epiphany in Port Orange and to philanthropy including serving on the board of Catholic Charities of Central Florida and the Catholic Foundation of Central Florida.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations be made in Joseph's honor to one of the following organizations Epiphany Church Help Center 201 Lafayette Street Port Orange FL 32127; Catholic Charities of Central Florida Inc. 1771 N. Semoran Blvd. Orlando FL 32807; Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida 2008 Brengle Avenue Orlando FL 32808.
