Obituary

Joseph John Andrew Scali, 63, Ormond Beach, transcended from this earthly life Thursday, January 14, 2016 following a lengthy illness.

Husband to Susan Shackelford Scali; son of Joanna "Joan" Grace Scali; and brother to Maura Scali-Sheahan, Patrick "Rick" (Felicia) Scali, Christopher (Toni) Scali, Suzanne Scali and, Sharon (Frank) Damante; son in law to Dell Shackelford; and brother in law to Eddie Shackelford, Riley Shackelford and Tina Doerer, Joe is survived by a large and loving family.

A devotee of all the arts, Joe was an accomplished pianist and guitarist. Having studied at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago, IL, he appeared as "the guitarist" in community theater productions of Kiss Me Kate, Man of LaMancha and Jacque Brel. Joe with his brother Rick then partnered in AIM Computers and later, Joe owned a local residential redesign company, often collaborating with his nephew Chris Aaron Scali.

Joe loved traveling, especially to Italy and through Europe, exploring new places and learning about other cultures. He was a generous and compassionate soul who immediately captivated the hearts of everyone that met him. An enthusiastic teacher, Joe often gifted instruments from his own collection to anyone interested in or wanting to play music. He loved gardening and delighted in sharing that passion with others, hosting celebrations with family and friends, and enjoying life to the rhythm of his own beat.

The "favorite uncle", Joe is also survived by his loving nephews and nieces: Nathan, Shawn, Jason, Eddie, Chris Aaron, Sarah, Blake, Brandon, Adam, Kristin, Bryanna, Rachel, Jason Allen, Jordan, Mauro and Jaren, all of whom express their adoration of his sense of humor, his love of family and his genuine interest in the paths of their lives. Joe also shared his musical and artistic talents with his great-nieces and nephews: J.T., Shawn, Kaedyn, Emily, Ryland, Jonas, Hunter, Bryn, Kylie, Helena, Maggie and James with the hope that they would grow to embrace discovery, evoke personal expression and embark on a lifelong quest for knowledge.

In celebration of his life, services for Joe will held at 1 pm, Tues, Jan 19th, at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond, 733 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach. In lieu of flowers and in the spirit of his love for children, the family requests donations to be made in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
