J. Dean Pelton 78 of Port Orange passed away on Saturday August 7 2004 at the Hospice Care Center in Port Orange. His family will receive friends for visitation at Baggett & Summers Funeral Home on Tuesday August 10 2004 from 5:00p.m. until 7:00p.m. with a family led remeberance service to be held at 6:00 p.m.
Dean was born in Findlay Ohio on October 2 1925.He attended the University of Chicago and the University of Iowa; and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII. Dean was the retired Director for 20 years of International Marketing Co. based in the Washington D.C. area and moved to the Daytona Beach area in 1979 from Silver Spring MD.
He was an accomplished and well known race driver during the 1950?s & 60?s in the northeast; and he raced on the sands of Daytona Beach in 1956 57 & 58. Dean was honored by the Living Legends of Auto Racing in 1994.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 19 years M. Lucy Pelton; 3 sons Michael Pelton of Denver CO Douglas Pelton of Rockville MD and John Pelton of Daytona Beach; 3 daughters Dawn Fischer of Nashville IN Debbie Bruggeman of Columbus IN and Deena Wise of Gaithersburg MD; 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
