On Thursday October 23 2008 a man of dedication and devotion departed this earth. Joe passed away peacefully in his Ormond Beach home with his children at his side. There will be a Memorial service at 7:00pm Monday October 27 2008 at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach FL with the family receiving friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Joe was born the son of Mr. Josef and Julia Ogonowski on December 11 1931 he was the youngest of 10 children. Graduated high school and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in June 1949. He was a Radio Operator Tech and achieved rank of Staff Sergeant and served an 11 month tour in Korea. Joe worked for Merck & Co. Chemical Co. in New Jersey for 5 years after an Honorable discharge. There he met his wife Jean of 50 years in a local swimming pool. He was appointed to the NJ State Police Academy and employed as an investigator for NJ Alcohol Beverage Commission. Joe and Jean relocated to Florida in 1960 and he was employed by Florida Division of Alcohol Beverage and Tobacco where he was ranked captain and supervised numerous district offices he retired in 1992 and accepted an 8 month contract in Antarctica. In Joe's own word "I enjoy traveling to new and enjoyable places with my lovely wife Jean and our children and grandchildren when possible. Fishing crabbing and antiquing are the things I like to do." Joe is survived by his brother John (Gloria) of NJ; his sisters: Eleanore of CA and Mary of CO; four children: Michelle (Dan) Ogonowski Michael (Vernessa) Ogonowski Maureen & Bernie Perdue and Maria (Steve) Piepenburg; five grandchildren: Charles (Phyllis) Perdue Shaun (Nichole) Perdue Michael Perdue Bernard (Lauren) Perdue and Marianna Piepenburg; six great-grandchildren: Alyssa Perry Charles Perdue II Chance Perdue Ashluire Perdue Annikuh Perdue and Addisynn Perdue. Joe made significant contributions to the betterment of every ones life he touched. He will be greatly missed in this world and now has taken his place in a better one.
