Joseph Mazesky, Jr., 69, of Ormond Beach, Florida passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017. Funeral services will be celebrated on the 22nd of September at 11 am at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church of Ormond Beach followed by a full military burial at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery located in Mims, Florida. Joseph was born on December 2, 1947 in Shenandoah, PA to Joseph Mazesky, Sr. And Eva Luz Mazesky. He moved from Pennsylvania to upstate New York where in 1965 he was drafted into the United States Marine Corp and served our country thru the Vietnam conflict.He was awarded several awards and citations including, the Vietnamese Campaign Medal, the Combat Unit Citation, along with the Presidential Unit Citation. Upon his honorable discharge from the Marine Corp in 1969, Joseph relocated to Hollywood, Florida in 1975. After his father's death in 1980, Joseph Jr. and his youngest brother, Francis Mazesky, moved to Volusia county in 1983. For the next several years, Joseph Jr. trained and worked as a chef before retiring in 1992. Joseph moved to Monticello, Florida shortly after to move to the country and had just recently relocated back to Volusia county in August of 2016 to be closer to his family.
Upon his retirement in 1992, Joseph spent countless hours collecting vintage baseball cards and memorabilia and rare and uncirculated coins. He also thoroughly enjoyed watching his old classic western movies and television shows.
Joseph Jr. was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Mazesky, Sr. and his mother, Eva Luz Mazesky Sashin. He is survived by his sister, Betty Mazesky Trachtenberg of Ormond Beach, his middle brother, Andrew Mazesky of Ormond Beach and his youngest brother, Francis Mazesky of Orlando. He is also survived by his 3 nephews, Stephen Trachtenberg of Hudson, NH, David Trachtenberg of Ormond Beach, and Frankie Mazesky of Orlando, his 2 nieces, Stacy Mazesky Bexley of Flagler and Emily Mazesky of Ormond Beach and his 2 great nieces, Kelsey Trachtenberg of Orlando and Ariel Trachtenberg of Goffstown, NH. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked to make memorial contributions in his memory to the American Legion post in Holly Hill.
