JOSEPH MAXIMILIAN "MAXIE" LEE

Maxie Lee died unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 19, 2020. Maxie was born in Macon, Georgia to the late Joseph O. Lee and Clara W. Lee. Maxie was retired from Southern Company in Atlanta, Georgia where he worked for thirty-five years.

Maxie attended Lanier High School in Macon and graduated from Washington High in North Carolina. He studied at North Carolina State University and graduated from Georgia Southwestern University.

He was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church in St. Augustine, serving as an usher and a deacon in the Presbyterian Church USA. Maxie loved St. Augustine and he and his wife Janet loved driving the coast to and from church every Sunday.

Maxie is survived by his wife Janet P. Lee of Palm Coast, Florida. He is survived by a son Allen (Lana) of St. Croix, USVI and their 18 rescue dogs and cats, daughter Rosalyn Powell (Jason) of Lawrenceville, Georgia, grandchildren, Dillon of Lawrenceville, GA, and Ryann of Durham, NC.   He is survived by his brother David A. Lee Sr (Cookie) of Macon, Georgia and their children whom Maxie loved: David Lee Jr (Lisa) Macon, Abby L. Locke (Brandon) of Griffin, Georgia, and Perry H. Lee of Macon. Maxie is survived by his brother-in-law Ron Pinnell (Julie) of Jensen Beach, Florida. Maxie adored his grand nieces and nephews and never missed a birthday with a card to include cash to equal their age. They are the Lee children:  David III, Jonathan, and Hannah,  and the Locke children: Carter, Kate, and Betsy Belle.

Maxie, known as the Southern gentleman and gentle giant in the neighborhood where he and Janet lived, loved his beach where he walked every day and rode his bike. He loved following the adventures of his best friend, his son, Lee, as he was called, and Lana as they lived many exotic places including Hawaii and St. Croix. He never missed a NC State game on the television.  He was passionate about these things as he was in earlier years watching his grandson Dillon play golf and granddaughter Ryann play basketball. He loved his beautiful yard and the beauty of his neighborhood. Maxie's greatest love was his bride Janet.

A celebration of Maxie's life will be held at a later date.
