JOSEPH EDWARD MALONEY, JR., D.M.D.

On February 23, 2023, Joseph E. Maloney, Jr. passed away peacefully at his Ormond Beach home after a brief illness. He was the husband of Yvonne "Bonnie" Bushong Maloney with whom he shared 62 years of marriage. They lived in North Palm Beach, Florida for 53 years before moving to Ormond Beach in 2017 to be near family.

Joe was born on July 13, 1935 in Louisville, Kentucky to Joseph E. Maloney, Sr. and Elinor Fromang Maloney. His brother, Frank Patrick Maloney, was born two years later. They grew up playing wild in the woods, ponds and lakes around Louisville. He was a graduate of DuPont Manual High School, was a lifeguard at Crescent Hill swimming pool and Tucker's Lake and a Kentucky Colonel. He was graduated form Georgetown College with a Bachelor of Science degree, and University of Louisville with a Doctorate of Medical Dentistry. He was a Captain in the U.S. Air Force in Charleston, South Carolina during the Cuban Missile Crisis. In addition to providing dental care for the airmen, he learned to set up field hospitals for the coming Vietnam War.

In 1964, he opened his dental practice in North Palm Beach, Florida where he practiced for 52 years. He considered his patients and staff to be friends and enjoyed his many days with them. He was an avid runner, competing in local races with his daughters, Molly and Missy. He was blessed with wonderful friends throughout his life. The yellow house and special neighbors on Osprey Way, as well as his Louisville family brought him a lifetime of happiness. He was a member of Gardens Presbyterian Church and Christ Presbyterian Church, Ormond Beach.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters and their husbands: Molly Maloney (Leslie Miller) and Melissa "Missy" Maloney Herrero (Renny Herrero).

Granddaughters: Maggie Lin Miller, Mary Frances Miller, Isabella Maloney Herrero and Caroline Maloney Herrero. Sisters-in-law: Helen Majors Maloney, Theresa Wendeln Bushong, Brother-in-law: Smith Barlow Bushong, Jr., Nephews and nieces: Michael Maloney, Martha Maloney, Matthew Maloney, John Maloney (Jodi), Sarah Maloney Stepp (Jason), Beth Bushong Adams (Keith), Smith Barlow Bushong III (Lori), Jessica Watkins (Ben), Eric Bushong (Krista), Evan Bushong (Erin) and many great nephews & nieces. He was pre-deceased by his parents and loving brother, Frank Patrick Maloney.

Joe loved animals and enjoyed many of his days in Ormond sitting on his back porch with his cats: Coco, Beauty and Elvis, looking out over the old Tomoka Oaks golf course. His hope was that the beautiful oak trees and open space of nature would remain.

He will be greatly missed by those who loved him. He now rests with Jesus.
