Joseph John Kukurender age 66 of Daytona Beach passed away Thursday February 25 2010 with his wife and son Michael at his side. A memorial service will be held in his honor at a later date please contact the funeral home for further information. Joseph was born St. Valentine's Day in 1944 to Joseph and Evelyn Stocks Kukurender on the Military Campus of West Point New York. He was a stellar High School athlete chosen Captain of a number of teams and continued to excel in several sports throughout his life. He married his High School sweetheart Mary Jane Maher on May 28th 1966 in Highland Falls NY and moved to Daytona Beach in 1987. Joe was a veteran of the US Army proud member of the Palisades Interstate Park Police retired in 1987 from the New York State Police and was with the Volusia County School Board until his second retirement in 2000. He was a huge fan of the New York Giants and Mets as well as Florida's; Orlando Magic Predators Seminoles and Gators and a member of the Daytona Beach Moose Lodge Port Orange Elks Club NYS PBA Association of Former NYS Troopers former parishioner of St. Paul's Catholic Church and presently attended Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. His grandparents parents aunt uncle and his canine companion "Buddy" preceded him in death. Joseph leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife; Mary Jane 2 sons Mr. and Mrs. Michael J. and Kandida Kukurender of Daytona Beach FL and Mr. Glen J. Kukurender of PA; a granddaughter; Kinsley J. Kukurender of PA; a maternal aunt Marguerite Eckhardt and her husband Ernest of Deland FL; very special cousins: Joanne Eckhardt Jim Nelson both of Flagler Beach Larry Eckhardt of Asbury Park NJ and Terry Mirarchi of Bayville NJ. He is also survived by the large extended family he married into and whom he adopted as his own loving "Sisters and Brothers in Law numerous cousins special nieces and nephews and their families as well as a host of fellow Police officers "old" Army buddies and many close friends. The family wishes to thank all the caring nurses on the 5th floor Intensive Care Unit (Fountain Bldg) at Halifax Medical Center all the Hospice of Volusia Flagler employees for their tender loving care and the Daytona Beach Fire Department Paramedics God bless all of you.
