Obituary

Joseph A. Johnston, MSGT, retired, 84 of Ormond Beach Florida passed away peacefully on Monday, April 29, 2019 at Kindred Hospital, Green Cove Springs, Florida. He was born August 16, 1934 in Birmingham, Alabama to Joseph Percy and Laberyl Harrell Johnston. Joseph served his country for over twenty-one years in the U.S. Air Force in the communication field. Upon retirement he entered Civil Service and had a few different jobs, first was AC/Heating Specialist, then, Mechanical Engineer Technician for the Titan II Missiles, and Engineering Technician. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Jacksonville, Arkansas, and the German American Club, Little Rock, AR. He was an avid Ham Operator and his call sign was W5AOE, Author of The Snag and Me Series, and a great Polka Dancer in the German American Club. He danced with his wife Margie throughout their entire marriage. They loved life, family and friends, and celebrated their life through music, travel, food and friends. Traveled throughout the United States, through Europe, especially Germany! Celebrated their 50th anniversary on a Cruise with their family, and made a trip to Hawaii to celebrate their friends 50th Anniversary. Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Marjorie Ruth (Chasteen) Johnston of Ormond Beach, by his daughter, Sharon L. Bricker and her husband, Ray V. Bricker of Ormond Beach, his siblings, Nettie Jo Carlisle, Kathryn Highfield, Mary Moore, Leroy Johnston, and Cheryl Black, and by his two grandchildren, Christina Bricker Gutierrez and Raymond V. Bricker Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents Laberyl Harrell Johnston and Joseph Percy Johnston, his brother William Thomas (Buddy) Johnston, his sister Ann Johnston Curtis, his brother Charles Eugene (Gene) Johnston. Viewing will be held on Monday, May 6th between the hours of 2:00 ~ 4:00 pm at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond, Ormond Beach, FL. Funeral services will be celebrated the following day, Tuesday, May 7th at 11:30 am, at Lohman Funeral Home; 733 West Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach, followed by graveside services with full Military Honors provided by Patrick Air Force Base Honor Guard at 2pm sharp, at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made in Joseph's memory to: any Humane Society Organization, as he loved animals. Arrangements are under the care of Lohman Funeral Home Ormond Beach.
