Together with his wife he did extensive traveling and was an active volunteer with Special Olympics Hawaii. He was also a member of Rotary in Albany, NY and an active member of the Lions Club in Molokai, HI. Later they purchased a home in Daytona Beach and traveled between Maunaloa and Daytona Beach before he finally retired. In 2009 they returned to Daytona Beach on a permanent basis.
