Funeral services for Joseph Dorr Ellison 75 of Fordham Dr. Daytona Beach who passed away after a long illness Wednesday September 12 2007 at home surrounded by his family will be 2:00pm Tuesday September 18th at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona with Fr. Richard Grasso a long time family friend officiating. Family will receive visitors from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Monday September 17th also at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona. Interment will follow services at Daytona Memorial Park.
A Daytona Beach native Joe was born October 31 1931 to the late Joseph R. & Florence Greenman Ellison. He graduated from Seabreeze High School where he was a well known football athlete. He attended the University of Florida and the Citadel Charleston SC.
Joe owned and operated Ellison Shoe Repair on Myrtle Lane and Bellaire Orthopedic Shoes in Bellaire Plaza. He later became an orthodist opening Ellison's Brace Center at Florida Healthcare where he worked until his retirement in 1994. Joe enjoyed vacationing in the mountains of North Carolina family gatherings and watching football. He was a regular customer of Bertie's Restaurant in Bellaire Plaza where he socialized with friends. In 1952 Joe married his high school sweetheart Janice Bockhoven Ellison. Together they raised four children James who preceded Joe in death Mark of Port Orange Susan Vedder Ormond Beach and Jamie Padgett Daytona Beach. In addition to his wife and children Joe had two sisters Lovelda Ellison Brumbaugh who lives in Gainesville FL and Margaret Ellison Tenant who preceded him in death. He also is survived by twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
