DAYTONA BEACH - Johnnie Lee Shepard, Sr., 89, of Daytona Beach, Florida passed away on April 15, 2021. He was born to Elma and Everneza Shepard on December 29, 1931 in Boston, Georgia. He was the fourth of 9 children Roscoe (deceased), Elmer (deceased), Bernice McAllister (deceased), Perman(deceased), Irene Thomas, Russell, Emmett and James Freddie (deceased). He graduated from Boston High School in 1949 and was a member of the basketball team. Johnnie moved to Daytona Beach, Florida and in 1952 enlisted in the United States Army. He was
stationed with H Company, 21st Infantry serving in the Republic of Korea. After serving his country he married Valeria Seay and they were married
on December 24, 1954. Their marriage lasted almost 66 years, and they became parents of four children Johnnie L. Shepard, Jr. (Dianne), Melvin
L. Shepard (Pamela), Harold T. Shepard (Eraina), and Carol A. King (Milton); grandparents of nine grandchildren, and great-grandparents of six
great-grandchildren. He worked for the City of Daytona for 39½ years retiring in 1994 as a Manager in the Public Works Department. He began his career after leaving the Army serving in numerous roles within the City's Public Works Department always ensuring he was available to his employees while inspiring them to excel in whatever role they had at the City. He was well respected by employees, supervisors, and customers alike. He enjoyed vacationing with his family, fishing, and watching re-runs of Bonanza and Sanford and Son. But mostly, he loved his wife Valeria and they were extremely proud of what their children achieved in their lives. He was a member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist church for over 60 years holding the title of Deacon for most of that time. He, along with his three sons, served our country for a total time between them of over 60 years in uniform while his daughter pursued her career in Finance.
A Visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Friday April 23, 2021 in the Chapel at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona, 1423 Bellevue Avenue, Daytona Beach. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday April 24, 2021 at Morning Star Baptist Church, 635 Madison Avenue, Daytona
