John Van Zweden, age 78, of Ormond Beach FL, passed away on Thursday July 28th , 2022.

Son to Adrian and Audrey Van Zweden, John was born on January 12, 1944, in Passaic New Jersey. He lived in Wayne New Jersey before moving to Schenectady New York and then Deltona and Ormond Beach Florida.

John married his wife of 55 years, Mary Lee, in Pompton Plaines NJ in 1967. He started his education at Newark College of Engineering where he received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1966.  John continued his education earning a master's degree in Engineering from Union College in 1975.

John enjoyed a long career with the New York State Department of Transportation until his retirement in 2003. He continued pursuing his passion for civil engineering by working for FEMA for several years after his "official" retirement.

John was a Deacon and an Elder at Niskayuna Reformed Church in Niskayuna New York. He was also a softball coach in Niskayuna New York and helped coordinate a basketball program in Deltona Florida. In his spare time John loved fishing, woodworking, bowling, cruising, and making home improvements.

John is survived by his wife, Mary Lee Van Zweden and was a devoted father of daughters Patricia, Cheryl and Christina Van Zweden, sons-in-law Art Kulenski and Nathan Hockenberry (Florida). John also leaves behind his sisters-in-law Portia Mallack and Diane Russo, his brother-in-law Anthony Zaffarese and his wife Patricia (New Jersey), brother Robert and family.

The family is planning a private celebration of life for John later in August. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored if donations were made in John's name to the Halifax Health Hospice Care Center.
