Obituary

John Harvey Toone

October 13, 1930 ~ November 30, 2022

John Harvey Toone passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 in Virginia Beach, VA. He was born to Catherine Toone (nee Druhan) in Everett, MA on October 13, 1930 and shortly thereafter moved to Nova Scotia, Canada where he lived until he was 18. Upon turning 18, John enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving in both Korea and Japan during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1955 after over 6 years of service.
After his discharge he moved to Daytona Beach, FL and became a baseball umpire. He worked games for several of the minor leagues, driving a taxi during the off seasons. John eventually left umpiring behind and began working for National Airlines as a customer service agent in Daytona Beach. While in Daytona, he met the love of his life, Patricia Myers. They married at St. Paul's Catholic Church on February 4, 1967 and welcomed a son, Michael, in 1969.
When National Airlines was acquired by PanAm in 1979, the family moved to LaPlace, LA where they spent 10 years before eventually returning to Florida and settling in Ormond Beach. There he worked for Capo, Inc. until his retirement. In 2019 John moved in with his son and daughter-in-law in Virginia Beach, VA where he lived until his passing in November 2022.
John enjoyed watching most any sport, and was an avid fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Florida Gators as well as NASCAR. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was an active member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. John was predeceased by his wife Pat and is survived by his son Michael (Kim) and his granddaughter Sarah. A funeral Mass will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Ormond Beach, FL on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in John's memory be made to a hospice organization of your choice.
