ObituaryJohn W. "Bud" Steiner
1930-2016
John W. "Bud" Steiner (86), son of the late John and Gladys (McMillin) Steiner of North Tonawanda and brother of the late Betty Janowsky, was welcomed home to His Lord on December 19th, 2016. He passed peacefully in the presence and prayer of his loving wife Anne and daughters Marianne (Peter) and Katherine (Barnaby). John is also survived by his adoring grandsons Santiago and Rafael (Katherine), as well as in-laws, nieces and nephews in the Western New York area.
John, born in Buffalo, was a United States Naval Korean War veteran and served on the USS Corregidor (CVE-58). He served as a Senior Systems Analyst for more than 25 years at Columbus McKinnon. John was previously a Technical Writer for defense company Martin Marietta (Lockheed Martin). During his naval career, he served as an air traffic controller and journalist supplying news articles for Key West and Miami newspapers. He was also a Mensa member. John and his wife are supporters of Doctors Without Borders.
Despite retiring to Florida, he remained a loyal Buffalo Bills fan. He was also an avid Civil War history buff, enjoyed reading, political commentary and continued the family's genealogy records.
John's family will be having a private ash scattering ceremony in the Florida Keys, where he was based during his Navy service. His amusing Navy and childhood stories were always a delight for his children and grandchildren to hear.
