John Milton Snapp, 91 of Deland passed away on May 22, 2014. He was born on June 7, 1922 in Washington DC. To the late Walter and Lilian Snapp. After graduating with honors from Rockville high, he entered a machinist apprenticeship in the naval gun factory in Washington DC. Seven day work weeks acerbated the four apprentice program to three years and upon graduation as a machinist he enlisted in the Navy.

His training in the gun factory and its optical shop, was continued through basic optics, and then advanced optics. Upon completion of his schooling then was assigned to the Philippians ship repair unit where he served honorable to the end of the war. Using the GI bill he was admitted into the well know art school, Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY studying industrial design.

After graduation from Pratt in 1950, Milton served as a designer and\or consultant to several defense contracts in Ohio and in Florida. Returning to Maryland he then joined John Hopkins Applied Physics Lab where he was given assignments in satellites, missiles, and submarine design using his specialized skills. He worked diligently for 26 years at Hopkins Lab before retiring in December of 1981.

He did not let up into his retirement having several hobbies as to extensive search into the genealogy of the Snapp family culminating with a Snapp reunion is 1998 the first since 1933, which drew 250 back to their roots in Winchester, Virginia.

Milton lastly moved to Florida, with his partner of 40 years, in 2008 and in his final year moved into and assisted living facility. He survived by nephews and nieces and will be sadly missed. Condolences for the family may be shared in this online guestbook.
