Funeral Services for John A. Silva Jr. 95 who died peacefully on Saturday Oct. 17 2009 will be Friday October 23rd at St. Nicholas of Mayra Catholic Church in N. Dighton MA with interment immediately following at St. Joseph's Cemetery. His family will receive friends Thursday Oct. 22nd in the chapel of Silva Funeral Home Taunton MA. John was born to John and Carlotta Abreau Silva on Feb. 4 1914 in N. Dighton MA. He served in the police reserve then enlisted in the Navy and served in WWII. Following his naval service he worked as a police officer and then opened his own grocery mart "Silva Fine Foods" which he operated until he sold it in 1974. He and his wife then retired to the Daytona Beach FL area where he worked at Publix and then at Sam's Club where he loved his full time position as the greeter making lots of friends and acquaintances. In both Taunton and in Daytona Beach he was a member of the VFW and the Elks Club and became a lifetime member of the Disabled American Vets (DAV) while residing in FL. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Mary and his daughter Dorothea "Dottie" Silva Medeiros of Edgewater FL. He was preceded in death by his parents his daughter Joan Butler his son in law John Medeiros and his 2 grandchildren. Condolences may be shared with the family online at www.lohmanfuneralhomes.com.
