A native Daytonian and life-long resident John Harris Selden II passed away on Wednesday. He was 82. Mr. Selden graduated from Seabreeze High School and attended the University of Florida. Following the path of his father Ray Selden a well-known and respected attorney he then enrolled at Stetson University with aspirations of obtaining a law degree. However his education was cut short as a result of WW II. He soon discovered his natural flair in sales and accepted a position with Mather Furniture Co. where he remained a loyal and dedicated employee for 42 years. Even after retiring his successes as a salesman prompted offers of employment. Enjoying the challenge and perhaps the appreciation of his skill he came out of retirement on several occasions. John was an avid golfer and many Sundays were reserved for golf and football in earlier years. He was a talented trumpet player and performed locally in a band making appearances at the Daytona Beach Bandshell. A music lover he also enjoyed the ?Big Band? sound and some of his favorites included the bands of Glen Miller and Tommy Dorsey. Another true passion of his was building and flying radio-controlled airplanes a concept virtually unknown in the early to mid 50?s and still in its infancy. John will be missed by many folks. He was predeceased by his daughter Joan Selden. Surviving family members include Geneva Selden to whom he was married for 34 years; a son and daughter-in-law Robert R. and Ruth Selden of Holly Hill; a daughter and son-in-law Eva Selden and Dean Welch of Ormond Beach; a grandson Jeff Selden of Tega Cay NC; a granddaughter Lisa Reed and husband Jeff and their three children of Canyon Lake TX; nieces Ann Beachum of DeLand Marilyn Coursey and husband Bo of Lakeland Shari LeDoux and husband Doug of Indiatlantic.
