John P. Palenchar, 91, Ormond Beach, died on January 14, 2015. Visitation will be on Monday, January 19, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 600 S. Nova Rd., Ormond Beach. A funeral mass will be offered at 11:00 a.m. in the church, interment will follow at Volusia Memorial Gardens, 548 N. Nova Rd., Ormond Beach.
Mr. Palenchar was born in Carpentertown, PA and moved to the area in 1986 from Darien, IL. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and then worked for the Federal Government in the Coast & Geodetic and General Services Agencies. He was a longtime member of Prince of Peace parish and served proudly as head usher and as a Third and Fourth Degree Knight. John enjoyed golfing and gardening and had a passion for Corvettes.
Predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Mildred, and brothers Joe, Bill and Martin. He is survived by daughters Gwen Kjellberg and Mary (Nick) Rieth; grandchildren Lauren Kjellberg, Matt Rieth and Julia Rieth; sister Helen Woodman, brothers Andy and Mike Palenchar. In lieu of other remembrances, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org) or to your favorite charity.
