John Daniel Otwell, formally from Augusta, GA, born January 26, 1950, passed on to meet his Lord on January 21, 2015. John was predeceased by his father, John Calloway Otwell, his dear mother, Elizabeth Dowling Otwell, and her twin sister, Sara Dowling Gill ( John ' s beloved aunt "Tally"), and his sister Corinne (Connie) Otwell, who John adored. Survivors include first cousins Duncan B. Dowling III and wife Sally of Daytona Beach, FL, Dianne (Dee Dee) Dowling Amos and husband Bud, and Marjorie Thayer Dowling of Orlando, FL., and Emmet (Gerry) Gill and wife Patsy of Indian Land, SC.

John lived in Augusta at 963 Heard Avenue until the death of his mother in 1994. John, a long time valued employee of the Kroger Grocery Store on Walton Way , retired after 20 years of faithful service, and after his mother's death, moved to Florida to be close to his Florida family.

John and his mother, Elizabeth, were faithful members of the First Baptist Church of Augusta for over 50 years. He was extremely proud of his family heritage, especially his mother, Elizabeth, who taught Science for years at Richmond High School. After she retired from the public school system, she continued her teaching at Richmond Academy, and was recently inducted into the prestigious Academy's 2014 Hall Fame class.

John's mother and her twin sister, Sara (Tally), were inseparable from birth, graduating from Salem College , and both garnering "Teacher of the Year" honors in their respective school systems the same year. John loved them both devotedly.

John lived his life as a Christian, and will be lovingly missed by his remaining family. A memorial service for John will be held in Port Orange Fl, at Lohman Funeral Home, on Monday, January 26, at 10:00 AM. A graveside service will be held February 7, 2015 at Westover Memorial Park, 2601 Wheeler Road, Augusta, Georgia. Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Home is in charge of the Georgia funeral arrangements. Friends of John and his mother, Elizabeth, are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one's favorite charity in John's name. Florida arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Port Orange.
