John J. Naretto 85 a long-time resident of Port Orange FL passed away February 28 2010 after a long battle with cancer. He was born on March 2 1924 in Manchester CT where he met his late wife Jeanne to whom he was married 43 years. After serving in the Army for several years he returned to Connecticut where he worked as a mail handler for the US Postal Service until he retired. He was a member of the Army Navy Club and the Elks Club #1893 in Connecticut for many years. In the mid 80's John and Jeanne relocated to Florida to enjoy their retirement years. John enjoyed golf bowling bingo and dancing and was a big fan of sports especially the Boston Red Sox. He delighted in stories and told them well and would always get a laugh from the numerous jokes he often told. Socializing entertaining and mingling amongst a crowd of friends or strangers were what he enjoyed most in addition to the 4:00 pm cocktail hour at his home each day where he enjoyed one of his infamous Manhattans. He will be remembered for his love and laughter and will be dearly missed by all who had the opportunity to know him. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday March 10 2010 at 4:00pm at Hospice of Volusia Flagler 3800 Woodbriar Trail Port Orange FL 32129. Left to cherish his memory are his long-time companion of 19 years Lorraine Matuszak; daughters Patricia Therrien of CT Marianne Naretto of Port Orange Lynn Wells and her husband Jeff of Port Orange; sister Lillian Donnelly of Cape Cod; grandchildren Jay Therrien and his wife Elisabeth of MA and Michael Wells of Tampa FL; great-grandchildren Daly and Nora Therrien of MA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in John's name to Hospice of Volusia Flagler or the American Cancer Society.
