Dr. John William Morris III, MD, 79 of Ormond Beach passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Florida Hospital Hospice, Daytona Beach. He was born November, 12, 1934 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late John and Lucy (Funkhouser) Morris. He was a graduate of Emory University, where he earned his Bachelor's and MD in medicine. He was a physician of radiology and was one of the founding partners of Radiology Associates of Daytona Beach, where he served for over thirty years. John served as a physician with the U.S. Public Health Service, holding the rank of Lt. Commander. He was a member of the Halifax River Yacht Club, the University Club, the Masonic Lodge as a 32nd degree Mason, and Rotary International. He sat on the boards of Suntrust Bank, the American Red Cross, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and served as President of the Daytona Beach Museum of Arts & Sciences. He was a member of the Volusia County Medical Society, a Diplomat with the American Board of Radiology and American Board of Nuclear Medicine. John was also an accomplished bagpiper and a member of the Daytona Highlanders. Most of all, John was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be missed by many friends and associates. He was full of life and loved traveling with his family. John is survived by his loving wife, Jeanne Frazier Morris, Ormond Beach; his children, Allison Morris (James) Zacharias, Deland, FL, Kimberly Littell Morris, Flagstaff, AZ, Meredith Carleton Morris, Atlanta, GA, and Matthew "Matt" (Patricia) Ormond Beach; his grandchildren, Van Westcott, Joshua Morris, Quinn Zacharias, Jens Westcott, Elizabeth Morris and Zoey Zacharias; his sister, Martha Morris (Heinz) Frech, Frankfurt, Germany, nephew, Martin (Denise) Frech, Hershey, PA, his niece, Elizabeth Frech (Michael) Strotmann, Frankfurt, Germany.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2014 between the hours of 6-8 pm with a Masonic service at 7:30 pm at Lohman Funeral Home; 733 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach. "A Celebration of Life" will be held on Monday, April 14th at 11:00 a.m. at Ormond Beach Presbyterian Church; 105 Amsden Road Ormond Beach. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John's memory to Florida Hospital Hospice, the Daytona Beach Museum of Arts & Science (Educational Dept.) and/or the Ormond Beach Presbyterian Church.
