Memorial Services for Johm M. Merrick age 64 of New Smyrna Beach will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday February 5 in the chapel of Baggett & Summers Funeral Home. John passed away on Monday January 30 2006 in Atlanta Georgia. He was born in Columbus Ohio on August 1 1941 to Robert L. & Susan V. Scurlock Merrick. He moved to Florida around 1943 and was raised in the Ocala area. After moving back to Ohio for a short time he came to Daytona Beach in 1963. John was a firefighter in Daytona Beach for over 14 years retiring as a Battalion Chief. After retiring he taught future firefighters at D.B.C.C. and Florida State Fire College. He was a graduate of D.B.C.C. himself having received an Associate of Fire Science Degree. Along with his family and his wife?s business Creekside Veterinarian of which he was the C.F.O.; John?s big love was motorcycles. He was a certified member of the BMW 400 000 mile Club. Left to cherish John?s memories are his wife and partner of 20 years Cindy S. Merrick; daughter Elainea Singleton; grandsons Shawn Lee Burnett & J. Curtis Burnett; great-grandchildren Clarissa Burnett Cora Burnett & J.C. Burnett; brother Robert Merrick; sister Mary Pewitt; nephews Robert & Mark Merritt and niece Theresa Alegria.
