John (Jack) Marvin Lavender, age 71, passed away peacefully at his Daytona Beach home, February 21, 2016. Jack had a quiet soul with a sharp wit and a streak of sarcastic humor that made us all laugh. He loved NASCAR, the beach and his family.

Jack spent the last many years of his life dedicated to the Alcoholics Anonymous program. He truly believed in the program and gave freely of his time and his love for all the people who searched for peace like himself. He touched hundreds of lives unselfishly and without judgment. He was a man that truly made a difference and touched so many lives. No one felt like a stranger for long, or felt like their problems were too big after they were greeted at the door by Jack. Jack openly shared his story and many lives were changed. He was loved and will be missed by so many people that knew and admired him.

Jack's family moved to Daytona when he was a child. Daytona Beach was always home to Jack... He served his country while in the United States Navy and upon returning worked for Florida Power and Light until he retired. Jack and his mother Mildred operated a food wagon on the beach for many years.

Jack is preceded in death by his father, John M. Lavender of Daytona Beach, and his mother, Mildred Cranmer of Daytona Beach. He is survived by his brother David Lavender of Houston TX, his niece Shelbi Lavender of Nashville TN, step sons Darius Rydahl of Colorado Springs and Jeremiah Rydahl of China, and his dear friend Paula Tea Sudomir of Mena, Arkansas. Although Jack's family was small and spread around the world, he loved them dearly and they were always in his heart. His upbeat phone calls with his slow southern accent will be missed.

Jack would love for us all to reflect on what is most important in our own lives while we remember him.
