John Gohn Jr., 93, died November 7, 2015.

John met the love of his life, Janet Mae Trout, the week of his graduation from high school in 1940 when he took her to his senior prom. They were married on Valentine's Day 1942 and celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary on Valentine's Day 2015.

John was born April 27, 1922 in Red Lion, PA, to John T. Gohn Sr. and Eleanor Smith Gohn. He was a 1940 graduate of Red Lion High School, where he was the first student athlete in the school to earn a varsity letter in four sports in a single year (football, basketball, baseball, & track). He was also a member of the National Athletic Scholarship Society. During high school, John worked summers for his father's contracting business until his father closed the business at the start of WW II at which time in Nov 1942 he started his career as a carpenter with the R S Noonan Co.

John proudly served his country in WW II as an instructor in the Central Instructor Flight School in Fort Myers, FL, and when it was moved to Laredo, TX, from 1943 to 1946. When John returned from serving his country, he rejoined the Noonan Co and in the next 42 years rose from carpenter to CEO and Chairman of the Board of the Noonan Group.

During that same period he was active in his chosen field and community serving as Director and President of the York Contractor Association, Direct and President of AGC of Pennsylvania, Director and Treasure of Memorial Hospital, Director of The York Bank & Trust Co, Director of York County Development Ass, Director & President of Queens Gate Shopping Center, a member of the Rotary Club of York, The York Country Club, and The Lafayette Club. John, while living in York, PA was for many years a member of the Locust Grove United Church of Christ and while living in Florida the Daytona Beach Drive In Christian Church.

During his spare time in the 50s and early 60s, John loved to boat with his family on the Chesapeake Bay on his boat the BON E JAN IV. All his life John liked to fly fish and hunt and was a member of the Three Point Deer and Bear Club in Clinton County, PA and the Laurel Fish and Game Association in Adam County, PA. Later on John built his own mountain home in the Village of Black Forest in Lycoming County, PA where he continued fly fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling.

In 1987, John retired and after one year at his home on Apple Hill in York, PA, he and his wife Janet decided to sell their home on Apple Hill and move to Florida where he had their retirement home build in a gated community know as Pelican Bay in Daytona Beach. There, he joined the Pelican Bay Country Club and took up tennis which he continued to play three to four times a week until he was 88 years old. He could now fish in his backyard of their retirement home. For many years after he retired to Florida, he and Janet would return to their mountain home to spend the summer.

John is the farther of three children Albert T and his wife Anna Gohn of York, PA Careon John and his wife Linda Gohn of Jacobus, PA and Bonnie Jean and her husband the late Frank Scarborough of St Joseph, MO. John is survived by his wife Janet and two sisters Charlotte Miller and Rose Mary Wise. John was preceded in death by two Brothers Archie Gohn and Richard Gohn and a sister Violet Fauth. Additionally there are ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter.

John was a committed husband devoted father and loving grandfather who will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, in the chapel of Lohman Funeral Home Daytona, 1423 Bellevue Avenue, Daytona Beach, FL 32114.
