Giroux
March 27, 1945 – November 19, 2025
John Roger Joseph Giroux, 80 of Port Orange, Florida, beloved husband of Betty Westland Giroux, died Wednesday, (November 19, 2025) at home surrounded by family.
John was born in 1945 in Waterville, ME the son of Vernette DeRocher Giroux and Ronaldo O. Giroux. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Leon Giroux, sister Dr. Grace Gloria Giroux, brother Peter Giroux and his sisters-in-law Joan Watts and Theresa Giroux.
One of five children, John grew up in a French Roman Catholic family. He was an alter boy and attended Catholic school. John graduated from Waterville High School in 1963. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1963-1967. He enjoyed his time with his wife, Betty of 56 years. The deep bond John had for his wife was an unbreakable connection. Their love story was central to his life, it was the most important accomplishment in his life. He had a special devotion to his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved his family vacations mostly on the beach. Family was of the utmost importance to him.
John worked at Sweet Life Foods/Supervalue for 30 years as a refrigeration mechanic for large tractor trailers. John was a loyal Teamster and was able to successfully retire at an earlier age, which created opportunities to travel the world and enjoy many cruises. He developed a love and appreciation for both music and art. John was determined to fix anything and everything. He had a brilliant mind and a unique sense of humor and was known for Uncle John's hot dogs that he would put together on vacations. He loved being a snowbird and owning a 2nd home in Topsham, Maine. That was a great pleasure he shared with his wife. He also developed an interest in flowers and cultivated a special rose bush, he was exceptionally fond of balloons and got much joy from them. He enjoyed traveling with friends and playing cards.
His passion for sports was unparalleled. He loved all sports with a particular focus on the UCONN Huskies Men's and Women's basketball teams and was open to watching any and every hockey game available.
Though John passed away his memory will forever remain in our hearts.
He leaves his wife and best friend, Betty, of 56 years. He also leaves a son Ronald Giroux of Holden, ME and Zephyrhills, FL and his wife Lynn MacDonald, daughter Michelle Ward and her husband Ronald Ward, JR of Milton, WV, grandchildren: Anna Giroux Seekamp and her husband Owen of Westbrook, ME, Graham Giroux of Westbrook, ME, Logan Ward of Orlando, FL, Jed Ward of Monaca, PA, Brynn Ward and Joseph Ward, both of Milton, WV. His Brother Paul Giroux of Winslow, ME, Brother-in-law Clifford Westland and his wife Alice of Chelmsford, MA, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be on February 28th at Lamplighter Clubhouse at 3202 S Nova Rd, Port Orange, FL 32129 from 1-3pm.
Internment of ashes will be at Daytona Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Halifax Health Hospice 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129
