John J. Gaughan Sr. 88 of Steubenville Ohio died on January 2 2008 at the home of his son Dr. David Gaughan Ormond Beach Florida. He was born on August 22 1919 in Steubenville Ohio the son of John J. Gaughan and Julia McHugh Gaughan.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years Jane Monteith Gaughan and their two sons John J. Gaughan Jr. and his wife Diane of Columbus Ohio and Dr. David Gaughan of Ormond Beach Florida and grandchildren John J. Gaughan III and Kylie E. Gaughan both of Columbus Ohio. Also surviving are a sister Mrs. Frances Post of Reading Pennsylvania and a brother Regis Gaughan of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.

John was a lifetime member of Saint Peters Catholic Church Steubenville Ohio and a member of American Legion Post 33 of Steubenville. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army Counter Intelligence Corps attached to the Manhattan (Atomic Bomb) Project.

Memorial contributions can be made to Saint Peters Catholic Church in Steubenville Ohio. A private service will be held at Mount Calvary Cemetery Steubenville Ohio with Monsignor George Yontz officiating.
