John Joseph Brink (Jack), 89, of Ormond Beach passed away on January 12, 2021 due to health complications following a fractured hip. He resided at the local Veterans Nursing Home where he was known for borrowing the residents' electric wheelchairs in the middle of the night. If he had his druthers, he would have departed the building for the local 7-11 store to purchase a case of beer and some Ensure. However, he was content joy riding throughout the nursing home, wearing his "Remember my Senior Discount" hat.  As such, he brought sunshine to the caregivers and nurses with his personality and wit, as well as his fondness for electric wheelchairs.

Jack was born in Lewistown, MT and enlisted into the United States Navy at the age of 20. After serving for 30 years, he was Honorably Discharged in 1980 as a Master Chief.  He went on to be a young at heart college student, obtaining his associate degree in business. He enjoyed seeing the United States on road trips with his now deceased wife Peggy of 61 years, who passed in 2015.  He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed playing bridge, and became a bicycle enthusiast at the age of 52. He logged more than 150,000 miles (not all in one day) on his jaunts, and while riding one particular afternoon he met a very dear friend named Krispy Kreme. He knew a glazed donut inside and out and would never settle for anything less.

Jack was very compassionate about life. He loved his family, treasured his friends, and he would truly give you the shirt off his back.

Jack and Peggy had two children. Cheryl, their daughter, passed away in 2017 and left behind her husband, James (Max) Maxwell. Jack is survived by his son John, married to Linda, who live in South Carolina; several nieces and nephews, and two loving caregivers, Dee and Patience.

He will be missed, but he now lives in the presence of the Lord – "Absent the body, present with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:8 NKJV)

There will be a graveside service with full military honors at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery located in Mims, Florida on January 22, 2021 at 10:45 am.  The family requests that in lieu of flowers, anyone that would like to honor Jack's life may consider a donation to the Alzheimer's and Dementia Association (alz.org), or the Gary Sinise Foundation (garysinisefoundation.org).
