Barrett John E. Sr. - John Barrett - 92 - passed away April 2 at home after a short illness. He was born in Warren AK on March 17 1916. He came to Florida when he was very young and lived here until his death. He was a graduate of Mainland High School where he was a member of the football team. He was a World War II naval veteran and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Masons. He enjoyed many years of square dancing and just until a few short years ago was very active in the local Dixie Squares Square Dance Club and also danced at the Challenge level with the Diamond Cutters Square Dance Club. He loved to fish hunt and read - especially Westerns. He retired from Florida Power & Light as the state safety supervisor. After his retirement in 1979 he spent some time in Iran as a private contractor and made a timely departure when the shah was deposed. He is survived by his wife Joyce and two daughters Bonnie Schwartzman (Bernie) and Connie Ferrar and a son John Jr. (Modine) as well as seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was predeceded in death by his first wife of 53 years Onnie Everett Barrett. John's life will be celebrated and friends may pay their respects at an open house at the home of John Jr. 615 Big Tree Road South Daytona on Sunday April 6 from 2:00 until 5:00 pm.
