Joel D. King, of Palm Coast, FL, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 after an unexpected heart condition. He was 80 years young. Joel was born on June 5, 1940 in Atlanta, GA, in a log cabin and weighed over 11 pounds. He was the son of Joel and Emily Lou (Finch) King.

Joel attended St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Palm Coast. It should come as no surprise that Joe King enjoyed "joking". He found a use for humor in EVERY situation. He was always cheerful and had lots of jokes to tell and easily made people laugh.

He loved sports in all shapes and sizes, mainly football, baseball, and did I mention football?  Joel especially loved the Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Falcons; both fell short of his expectations. And you can't really enjoy a good game without a good cold beer and a pause button.

Joel was also incredibly creative: not only did he teach himself how to oil paint from his visions, not from other pictures; he was a great storyteller and could make you feel that you were actually in the story. He also loved bowling. To him the beach was a paradise. He served in the Army at Fort Knox in Kentucky. He worked for AT&T in Jacksonville, FL, and was a Circuit Engineer for AT&T in Atlanta, GA, where he retired.

Joel cared deeply for his family, and he would answer the phone no matter the time of day. He believed in the value of family. Joel is survived by his dedicated wife, Georgette, of 42 years, his children Donna Gorman, Jacksonville, FL, Angie Eckroth, Lakewood, WA, Joel Pelt, Woodstock, GA, and Jennifer Wisdom, Portland, OR. He will be deeply missed by his brother-in-law, Marvin Reese and nephew, Jeffrey Reese of Jacksonville, FL, and cousin, Merrill Bennington, of Newnan, GA.

Joel was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Martha Reese, his great-grandmother Nancy Lowery, and his Uncle Harold Finch. A private Celebration of Life service will be held by the immediate family.
