Joe Rex Nisbett, 88, of Ormond Beach passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018. The family will be receiving visitors on Saturday, November 3 from 1 pm -3 pm at Lohman Funeral Home at 733 W. Granada Blvd. A funeral service will follow at 3 pm.

Joe was born in Grove City, Pennsylvania on April 21, 1930. He is the eldest of four brothers (Donald, deceased, Robert and David). He spent his childhood in Niles, Ohio with his siblings and cousins – all boys. His father and mother owned a grocery store.

He left Niles to attend Kent State University in Kent, Ohio about an hour from his home. He pursued a major in sociology while working to put himself through school. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1952. He entered the army and served two years as an x-ray technician in Paris, France. While taking classes to learn French, he met his future wife, Helen, who was attending an art school there. The two dated, but went their separate ways until they met again in New York City. Joe had begun a Master's degree at New York University and Helen was working in textile design. They married in Philadelphia on March 2, 1957 and moved to Rome, New York where Joe worked in the aerospace industry. Three children (Patricia, Joseph and Richard) and four years later, Joe and Helen moved to Denville, New Jersey for a new position with Singer-Kearfott. In 1971 the family moved to Florida where Joe bought an AAMCO transmission shop in Daytona Beach. During this time Helen developed breast cancer. After a three year battle, she died in April 1981. At that point Joe sold the business and became a licensed real estate broker. He bought and sold real estate into retirement.

Family was always important to Joe whether it was weddings, family reunions or graduations. He loved a good party.

During retirement Joe spent time with his sons helping either at Richard's automobile dealership in Daytona Beach or with Joseph's commercial real estate business in Orlando.  He also played his favorite card game –Bridge. He and his girlfriend Lila Barker (deceased) traveled to Bridge conventions and won many times. Joe enjoyed learning about the Nisbett family tree. As a member of SCORE, he helped entrepreneurs start their own businesses. He also enjoyed dinners and dancing at the Moose Lodge. His love of people led him to attend both his 50 ^th high school and college reunions.

He has been blessed with seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
