Dr. Jocyline Medina, a former Professor of Radiology at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and staff radiologist at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, died June 27 at her home in Palm Coast, FL after a courageous battle with bile duct cancer. She was 77.

Dr. Medina was born Jocyline Ledesma on October 17, 1937 in Iloilo City, Philippines, the oldest of seven children. She earned an undergraduate degree in the arts, followed by a doctor of medicine degree, from University of Philippines. In 1963, she immigrated to the United States, where she was an intern at Worcester City Hospital in Worcester Mass., then a pediatric resident at Columbus Children's Hospital in Columbus, OH. This was followed by a fellowship in ambulatory pediatrics at Montefiore-Morrisania Hospital in Bronx, NY and pediatric radiology residencies at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and Presbyterian-University Hospital.

She was a member of several medical societies including The John Caffey Society, American College of Radiology, American Roentgen Ray Society, American Medical Women's Association, Association of University Radiologists and American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine. She is also listed in Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare.

Among her numerous honors is First Prize in Diagnostic Imaging in Liver Transplantation from the Pennsylvania Radiological Society in 1982; Bronze Medal for Exhibit: Lymphoproliferative Disorder Abdominal Manifestations from the American Roentgen Ray Society in 1991 and 1992; and the Teacher of the Year Award in the Radiology Resident Training Program at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1986-1987, 1987-1988 and 1993-1994.

She published 55 articles, reviews, monographs, books, book chapters and abstracts and presented her many findings at medical conferences around the world.

Jocy, as she was known to family and friends, was a passionate gardener and also enjoyed sewing, knitting and crochet. She was a woman of great faith and led a prayer group for her friends in Palm Coast.

She is survived by her husband Dr. Amando R. Medina; daughter Marcelyn Medina; and sisters Rosalinda Garcia, Lourdes YapDiangco, Mila Joshi and Nelly Jean Beluso.

Services will be held on Wednesday, July 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 4600 Belle Terre Parkway, Palm Coast FL, 32164. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org). Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Palm Coast.
