Obituary of Jocelyn Davis

Jocelyn Nelson and her twin sister, Joyce, were born on November 30, 1933 to John Nelson and Florence Pierre in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies. She was second oldest of four children. She attended Tranquility Girls Intermediate School in Port of Spain, Trinidad. She then was a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Red Cross Society for 13 years, in which she was trained in First Aid, Home Nursing and Maternal and Child Welfare.

Jocelyn met Calvert Davis, an auto mechanic, in 1965 in Trinidad. Jocelyn emigrated from Trinidad in 1967 to Brooklyn, New York. Calvert and Jocelyn got marred in 1968 at St Peter Claver Church in Brooklyn, New York. This marriage produced their only daughter, Carlyn, in 1970.

Jocelyn was employed at St Vincent Hospital in New York, New York as a Labor and Delivery Technician for 27 years until her retirement 1995.

Jocelyn and Calvert then retired to Daytona Beach, Florida in 1995. During her retirement she volunteered in many organizations including AARP chapter 386, in which Calvert and her were committee chairpersons for 10 years. She also volunteered with Council of Aging for 20 years and VITAS for 14 years.

She was a devout Roman Catholic and was a member in good standing at St Gregory the Great Church in Brooklyn, New York and the Basilica of St Paul in Daytona Beach, Florida.

She was a loving and caring person who made many friends along the way, including at Senior Oasis in the Dynamic Dickerson Center. She also kept in contact with her friends in New York and Georgia. She also loved to travel and went on many cruises.

She was preceded in death by her brother McDonald "Mackie" Nelson, twin sister, Joyce Jennings, sister Marilyn "June" Lewis, niece Ann Julien and her grandson Alain Jabouin Jr.

Jocelyn leaves behind her husband Calvert, daughter Carlyn Jabouin, son in law Alain Jabouin, nephews Brian Julien, Stuart Jennings, Omar Nelson, Nigia Lewis, and Kent Lewis.

A Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Monday March 20, 2023 in the Chapel at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona, 1423 Bellevue Avenue. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday March 21, 2023 at The Basilica at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 317 Mullaly Street, Daytona Beach, Florida 32114. Interment will follow in Daytona Memorial Park, 1425 Bellevue Avenue, Daytona Beach, FL 32114.
