Obituary

Joanne Carolyn Toohey Remey, a resident of Ormond Beach, Fl., passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday April 25 th at the age of 85.

Joanne graduated from Stroudsburg High School in Pennsylvania and went on to earn her Bachelors degree from The Philadelphia School of Nursing, Presbyterian Hospital, Philadelphia, PA. She was a Surgical Registered Nurse specializing in Orthopedics at Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Joanne loved baking, sewing, boating, gardening, crocheting, and music, but her greatest joy came from raising her two boys.  She was a devoted animal lover and is survived by her true, faithful, and devoted dog, Cali.

Joanne was a member of the Church of The Holy Child Episcopal Church.  She was a strong, passionate woman with a tenacious spirit.  She was a true and devoted friend and mother who was always there with her supportive counsel and a loving heart.

Joanne was predeceased by her loving husband, Neldon Norman "Pete" Remey,.  her mother, Dorothy Palmer of Stroudsburg, PA and her father Richard Toohey of Hurleyville, NY. Joanne was born in Stroudsburg, PA November 19, 1932.   She and Pete were married April 11, 1953 and moved from Stroudsburg to Florida in 1955.  Joanne is lovingly remembered by her sons, David S. Remey of Ormond Beach, FL and Steven K. Remey  (Debby) of  Port Alberni, British Columbia, Canada.  Joanne was loved by Alexandria "Dee" Remey and David Remey and her grandchildren who reside in Ormond Beach, Robert Alexander Bittner (Amanda), Austin Davis Remey, Lunden Fairchild Remey and Catharine Grace Remey.  Steven's son, Peter Christopher Justin Remey (Paula) of Oak Harbour, WA and Joanne's Great Granddaughter, Madison Remey, also survived her.

The family will be holding a private memorial service honoring her life and love at a later date.  Donations can be made in Joanne's memory to Halifax Humane Society, 2364 LPGA Blvd. Daytona Beach, FL 32124 or the Mid Florida Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 2701 Maitland Center Parkway, Suite 100, Maitland, FL 32751.

Arrangements are under the care of Lohmans Funeral Home.  Condolences for the family may be shared here on our website.
