Joan Keros, 97, of Port Orange, FL passed away July 4, 2014. A Memorial Service in her honor will be held Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 10:00am at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond. Inurnment will follow at Daytona Memorial Park.

Joan was born in Motherwell, Scotland in 1917 and her family moved to Detroit, MI when she was 8 years old. In Detroit, she worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" as a welder in the factories to help in the WWII effort. After the war, Joan's love for sparkles guided her to become a jeweler. Joan met and fell in love with a young man just out of the Army, Raymond Keros. They raised 2 sons, Barton and Joe, and 2 daughters, Zoe Ann and Noreen.

In 1985, Joan and Raymond retired to Port Orange. Raymond had an ice cream route on the beach, after retiring from his Coney Island business in Detroit, while Joan fully enjoyed her family and retirement. Joan loved cooking for family and friends, as well as gardening and landscaping. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and reading. Joan will be remembered for her love of her Scottish heritage. She drove a motor home to many Highland Games with her daughters, who were competitive Highland dancers, every weekend each summer, including multiple trips to Scotland. She was also proud of her sons who served in the military.

Joan will be sadly missed by her family: son Joseph Keros (Mary), daughters Zoe Furgison (Dr. Clifford) and Noreen Hull (Dr. John), grandchildren: Tracie, Holly, Michael, and Matthew, 4 great-grandchildren, and by her sister June Ellen Rigg. Joan was predeceased by her husband of 56 years Raymond in 2009, by her son Barton Mills, and by her brother Joseph McGivney.
