Joan Baer Drury of Ormond Beach Florida died peaceful at home at the age of 86 on January 1, 2015. Joan was born in Fall River Massachusetts on November 1, 1928. She grew up in Swansea Mass and attended Case High School. During WWII, she substitute taught for the primary school. Upon completion of High School, she majored in Biology at Brown University, followed by a University fellowship in Bio-chemistry at the University of Chicago. She taught School English and Mathematics in the North Hampton School for girls and junior high school Mathematics in Norwalk Connecticut. Joan was then employed in the Metallurgy Laboratory at Sikorsky Aircraft in Bridgeport, Connecticut where she meet her husband of 60 years. She left employment to raise her family in Shelton Connecticut. As the children became older, she taught 7th grade biology for 20 years. Joan was a Girl Scout leader, a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and a square dance club called Valley Squares. She became involved in genealogy, became a certified genealogist for DAR and eventually the Connecticut State Treasurer for DAR. She and her husband retired to Ormond Beach Florida where she continued her genealogy research and became the Regent for the Captain James Ormond chapter of DAR. She was also a member of the Mayflower Society, the Halifax Genealogical Society of Ormond Beach, Colonial Clergy, The National Society of Magna Carta Dames and New England Women. She also is a member of the Halifax Yacht Club and St. Mary's Episcopal Church. She loved her family, traveling the world, genealogy, and family card games, and she instilled a love of music and travel in her children. She is survived by her husband Warren Edwin Drury Jr. of Ormond Beach, her children Debra Lee Nelson of Fairfax Station Virginia and Warren Edwin Drury III of Lawrenceville, Georgia, nine grandchildren and seven great grand-children. She is pre-deceased by her parents Henry Clinton Baer Sr. and Gertrude Ratcliffe Baer and brother Henry Clinton Baer Jr. Funeral Services will be at St. Mary's Episcopal Church Daytona Beach on Tuesday January 6 at 2 PM.
