Obituary

Jewel Kendrick Lay, 89, of Daytona Beach, died March 18, 2014 at Florida Hospital. There will be a graveside service at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens (Powell, TN) on Sunday, March 30 at 2:00p.m. with a reception for the family to follow at Edgemoor Baptist Church. The service will be officiated by Pastor Rick Miller. Born April 8, 1924 in Strawberry Plains, TN to J.B. and Joyce Kendrick; she was raised in Claxton, TN and resided most of her adult life in Knoxville. She was a member of Edgemoor Baptist Church. She worked as a secretary at the University of Tennessee and for the Department of Energy under Union Carbide and Martin Marietta where she retired. Jewel moved to Daytona Beach in 2012 where her son faithfully cared for her up until her passing. She is survived by her Son, Spike Lay of Daytona Beach; Grandson, Joel Lay (wife Sarah); Granddaughter, Stacy Clark (husband Jay); Great Granddaughter, Avery Lay; Sister, Bonnie Palmer; and Brother Mont Kendrick as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, James Edward (Ed) Lay Sr.; brother, Jennings Kendrick; brother, John Kendrick; and sister, Emma Norman.
