Jerry D. Childress 61 a long-time resident of Ormond Beach passed away April 13 2009. A casual Memorial Service will be held at 633 Pineland Trail Ormond Beach FL 32147 (Darlene and Philip's house) after 3pm Saturday April 18 2009 to remember and celebrate the life of Jerry Childress. Jerry was born on July 10 1947 in Akron OH. At the age of 16 he proudly served our Country for three years in the US Army stationed in Germany. Upon returning to the US he worked as a painter for Modern Age Kitchens while returning to school to complete his Associates Degree then as a machinist for General Electric. Most recently he was a Manager with Raylon Corp. where he was employed for the past 11 years. Jerry known by most as "Jer-Bob" had made many good friends in his lifetime some of which are members of the North Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Ormond Beach where his wife is a member. When not working he could be found playing Blue Grass music fishing hunting competitive shooting and tending to his gun collection all of which he enjoyed immensely. Jerry was a proud "take charge" sort of man and stood up for what he believed in. His word and a handshake were as good as a contract. He will be remembered most for his wonderful sense of humor and the ability to always put things in the proper perspective. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him including "Poncho" his favorite Chihuahua. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Sharon; sons Wade (Kimberly) Childress of Port Orange Erik (Olena) Childress of Ormond Beach; daughter Jessica (Ronald) Duffell of Greenville AL; sister Darlene (Philip) Gainey of Ormond Beach nine grandchildren and many good friends.
