Obituary

Jerry Floyd Atkinson, 79, of Ormond Beach, FL passed away on May 12, 2014. He was born March 29, 1935 in Dillon, S. Carolina to D.C. & Fleetwood (Carmichael) Atkinson. Jerry proudly served his country for over 20 years, retiring from the US Air Force as a MSgt. After his military career, he and his wife Jeanne opened Sunshine Liquors in Sanford, FL. He was a true St. Louis Cardinal Fan - especially when they beat his nephew's Boston Red Sox in the 46' and 67' World Series.

Jerry will be lovingly remembered for being down to earth - he had a great sense of humor and his company was enjoyed by all. He loved to fish, play cards and spend time with his family. Jerry is survived by daughters, Mary Atkinson Parkhill and husband Jim, Ruth Atkinson Davis, and a son, David Atkinson, all of Crosbyton, TX. He is also survived by step-daughter, Jeanne Lynn Harris of Ormond Beach, FL, and step-son, Danny Harris of Maryland. He leaves behind his dear sisters, Peggy Jean Estep of Lakeland, FL, and Josephine Grainger and husband Howard of Longs, S. Carolina. Jerry had six grandchildren and 27 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives Jeanne Grant Atkinson and Davina Newberry Atkinson, and by six brothers, three sisters, three nephews and one niece.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 17th at 2:00 pm with the family receiving friends from 12p - 2p at Lohman Funeral Home; 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach. In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions be made in memory of Jerry to the Florida Hospital Hospice Care of Volusia/Flagler www.FHHospiceCare.org, or to Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) http://www.themmrf.org.

Arrangements are under the careful care of Lohman Funeral Home Ormond. Condolences for the family may be shared through this online guestbook.
