Obituary

Jeannette Victorine Matatics, of 5929 Shady Creek Lane, Port Orange, Florida, passed away suddenly on Mother's Day at Port Orange Rehabilitation, after suffering a debilitating stroke in February 2022.

Jeannette was born in Fez, French Morocco, on July 21, 1934, and attended schools there, before attending college and graduate school in Rabat, Morocco. It was while studying for her Master's Degree in Languages that she met her future husband, Stephen John Matatics III, who was stationed there while serving in the United States Air Force. They were eventually married in Tangiers, Morocco in 1956.

As a military family, they travelled throughout most of the fifty states and were stationed at six different bases for the next eighteen years, while raising their three sons. Eventually finishing her Master's Degree in Languages at the University of New Hampshire in 1972, while Steve was stationed at Pease Air Force Base in New Hampshire, Jeannette began teaching French and Spanish at Portsmouth High School. She later transferred to Winnacunnet High School in Hampton, where she taught for eight years, eventually retiring from Exeter High School, after fifteen years of dedicated hard work and loving devotion to her students.

After retirement, Jeannette and Steve traveled several times back to France and other nearby countries to see her family and the historic sights of the continent. For the next twenty years they shared homes in both New Hampshire and Florida (Steve's home state), enjoying the parks, concerts, beaches, and other cultural offerings both states had to offer. They also enjoyed painting, and recently celebrated their sixty-sixth wedding anniversary.

Jeannette is survived by her husband Steve, and their beloved sons Gerald, Roland, and Eric, their wives and children, as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many relatives in France.

Family would like to thank the staff at Port Orange Rehab for their dedicated care during these past difficult months.
