Gilliland
Sep 4, 1940 — Jun 26, 2022
Jeanene Bradley Gilliland
Jeanene Bradley Gilliland passed away peacefully on June 26, 2022, in Ormond Beach, FL with her family by her side. She was born on September 4, 1940, in Fort Worth, Texas to John Powell and Evelyn Marshall Bradley.
Jeanene was valedictorian of Bowie High School (TX) class of 1958 and received a Bachelor of Science degree with honors from Texas Women's University. She met her husband, Maurice "Gene" Gilliland while teaching in New Mexico as Gene drew attention to himself with a motorcycle that was "too loud" (something he always disputed) when he returned from his night shift with General Electric. They lived in several areas of the country, but she always considered herself a proud Texan and would mention it whenever she had the opportunity.
The family moved to the Daytona Beach area in 1970. Jeanene taught at Osceola Elementary School and Seabreeze Senior High School and was active in the community as a member of the Ormond Beach Presbyterian Church, Junior League, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and several youth-based organizations.
After relocating to Philadelphia, PA in 1980, Jeanene furthered her education at Delaware County Community College and received an Associate Degree, with high honors, in Applied Science - Computer Programming. Never one to sit idle, she began a second career as a database manager and entrepreneur founding Scan, Inc. in 1984. She later worked for International Speedway Corporation during a time when two new tracks were being constructed.
Jeanene was a devoted mother and grandmother, returning to the Daytona Beach area in 1998 to be close to her family. She loved making others feel special, spending time with her grandchildren, visiting Walt Disney World, reading, and celebrating anything and everything.
Jeanene was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Maurice "Gene" Gilliland; her son, Richard Gilliland, and brother, Gary Bradley. She is survived by her children, Susan (Dave) Schandel, and Robert Gilliland; grandchildren, Paul (Kimberly) Schandel, Laura Schandel (Bradley) Warner, Megan Schandel, Amanda Gilliland, and Joseph Gilliland; five great-grandchildren; and her longtime sidekick, Max the cat.
