Jean Corkum (LaRochelle), 94, devoted wife of Burton L. Corkum, Jr., passed away peacefully into the gentle loving arms of God on November 21, 2018 , at Bishop's Glen Retirement Community in Holly Hill, Florida.

Born in Berlin, New Hampshire, to Norman and Olive LaRochelle (Oswell), Jean attended Berlin Senior High School and met her husband-to-be at the Junior Recital.

After graduating from Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston, Jean worked as both a Legal Secretary and later as an Executive Secretary to private foundations.

She enjoyed knitting, reading, swimming, crossword puzzles, travel, and chatting on the phone. When she was 50 she began taking art lessons and became a prolific artist, participated in many juried art shows, gave away dozens of beautiful pieces in addition to inspirational hand-painted bookmarks, and continued watercolor painting until recently. She and her husband traveled the U.S. and parts of Europe over the years. He would take landscape photos so she could paint them.

Jean gave life and boundless love to four children, Burton, Nancy, Jane and Brian. Family and Faith were without a doubt the most important aspects of her life. She loved each and every family gathering including impromptu visits, family reunions at the lake house, family milestone birthdays, and most recently their 70th wedding anniversary. Jean is survived by her husband of 73 years, Burton L. Corkum, Jr.; sister Dorothy Barker; four children; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two nephews; three nieces; and three first cousins.
