Janet Eleanor DiLuzio (1933-2026)

Our beloved mother, Janet Eleanor DiLuzio, beloved wife of James Mauro DiLuzio for 73 years, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Aden Senior Living Residence in Ormond Beach, Florida, surrounded by her family.

Janet was born on December 23, 1933, to Edward Capone and Jennie Rose Buonocore Capone. She was the youngest of five siblings, all of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Rev. James Michael DiLuzio, a Roman Catholic priest and member of the Paulist Fathers in New York City; her daughter, Jeanne Marie Rinek and her husband, Charles, of Flagler Beach, Florida; her son, Edward Leo DiLuzio and his wife, Jennifer, of Anderson, South Carolina; and her son-in-law, Donald Arthur Cameau of Ormond Beach, Florida, husband of her daughter, Muriel Edna who preceded her in death.

Janet was a loving and devoted grandmother all of whom are filled with strong, affectionate memories of “MIMI”—Mimi being their preferred way of addressing her. Her grandchildren are Justine Florez and her husband, Alan; Veronica Jean DeFeo; Dallas James Rinek and his wife, Anna Sean DiLuzio and his wife, Stephanie; Amanda Drewes and her husband Daniel; Chelsea Parente and her husband, Dominic; Vincent Comeau, and Abigail DiLuzio.

Mimi was blessed to enjoy frequent visits from her family. Fittingly, she found exceptional delight celebrating her longer life through her relationships with her great grandchildren: Addison and Annabel Florez, Lyla Jean DeFeo, Daxton Drewes, Ronan and Kylan DiLuzio, and Nova and Enzo Parente. Above all, Mimi loved family gatherings in her home for playtime and meals, weekend visits; she eagerly anticipated the many times her children and grandchildren would visit with their children in tow. She made every child feel welcomed and cherished, confident that they were among those deeply loved. To all her descendants, Mimi’s home was a place of warmth, laughter, unconditional support along with plenty of tasty treats and beauty tips. For most of her life she was the consummate homemaker and a perfect hostess.

Mimi had a passion for baking. Her well-loved Betty Crocker Cookbook was never far from reach. She also adored glamour, fashion, skincare, makeup, and hairstyling. She delighted in reading fashion magazines until the very end of her life and loved sharing beauty tips with her daughters and granddaughters. She believed that looking your best was a way of showing self-respect.

Janet spent her early married life with Jim raising their family in Closter, New Jersey. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to supporting her husband's career as Chief of the Closter Police Department. She was the steady foundation of their family, lovingly caring for their home and children.

Janet actively participated in the Closter Elks Ladies Auxiliary, coordinating charitable and community-building events, taught Religious Education at Saint Mary's Catholic School, and proudly served as a Brownie Den Mother. During her life with Jim in Florida, she served as a Eucharistic Minister at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Parish in Palm Coast, and later at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Flagler Beach before she became homebound.

Janet's life was defined by her unwavering Catholic Christianity, daily devotions to the Stations of the Cross, the Rosary, and the Scripture Readings of each day. She reflected Christ’s love in her generosity and her dedication to family, filling their lives with laughter and grace and love. Janet is now reunited with her husband and at peace in the presence of the Lord, along with cherished family members who went to God before her. We pray her love will live on in the lives of all who were blessed to call her Mom, but most especially, those who called her Mimi.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 600 S. Nova Road, Ormond Beach, Florida 32174.
