James Spiros Stevens passed away peacefully on January 14, 2022, at his home in
Port Orange, Florida. James was born in Thessaloniki, Greece on June 10, 1929. As a
young boy growing up during WWII, James demonstrated his strong survival skills and
selflessness by bartering with the occupying soldiers for food and supplies to help feed
his family and neighboring families. In 1947, he and his family emigrated to the United
States, arriving at Ellis Island in New York. After becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen,
James enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserves, where he proudly served for four years,
retiring honorably as a senior officer. Driven with a hard work ethic and determination,
James worked for the New York Central Railroad Company in Cleveland, Ohio for many
years. After leaving Ohio, he traveled the world in search of adventure. His journey
brought him to Florida, where he met his wife, Daphne Karantinos of Titusville.
Together, they established their home in the Daytona Beach area, where they raised
four beautiful daughters. James was a successful entrepreneur with multiple
businesses and enjoyed a thriving career as a real estate developer. James loved to
spend time with his family and friends and enjoyed sharing stories about his travel
adventures with others. He had a heart of gold and was always generous with his time,
and willing to help others in need. He pursued a variety of interests during his lifetime,
including: reading, learning about other cultures, and speaking multiple languages.
In addition to his parents, Spiros, and Aspasia, he was predeceased by his sisters Maria
and Anna, and his wife, Daphne. James is survived by his four daughters, Aspasia,
Anna, Alexa, and Amanda and his five grandchildren, Jasmine, Nora, Gabriel, Maria,
and Konstantine.
The family will receive guests and friends on January 18, 2022, between 4:30 and 6:30
for a visitation and viewing at Lohman's Funeral Homes of Daytona, located at 1423
Bellevue Ave, Daytona Beach, FL 32114.
Religious services will be held at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox church on January 19,
2022, at 1:30 P.M. James's burial will immediately follow the church services at Daytona
Memorial Park in Daytona Beach, Florida.
