James Edward Roberts, 80, of Deland, Florida passed away on May 14, 2017 at his residence in Deland.
A Visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Wednesday May 17, 2017 in the Chapel at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona. The Funeral Service will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday May 18, 2017 also in the Chapel at Lohman Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Daytona Memorial Park.
James Roberts was born on January 31, 1937 in Daytona Beach, Florida to the late James Fred and Lenora (Vann) Roberts. He graduated from Mainland High School in 1955. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Berlin Crisis.
James retired after 37 years as a Project Engineer (Road and Bridge Construction) with the State of Florida.
He played softball with the "Ormond Optical" team. James enjoyed coaching and organizing many sports and little league teams such as football, baseball and basketball.
He bowled for many years and loved to go to Relay where he enjoyed hunting. He also enjoyed bass fishing in the St. Johns river. He was a devoted and loving grandfather and will be dearly missed by all.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Eliza "Tedder" Roberts; son, Don (Andrea) Roberts of Port Orange; sister, Cindy (Ray) Bagozzi; two brothers, Marty (Michelle) Roberts and Dickie Roberts; two grandchildren, Samantha and Brooke Roberts; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Dwayne Edward Roberts and his brother, Jimmy Holder.
