Reddick Jr. James Peter died peacefully Friday January 4 2013. "Jim" was a current resident of Daytona Beach but was born and raised in Denver CO. In Denver he met and later married Mary his wife of 64 years and the love of his life. Jim began his college career at Notre Dame University and graduated from The Naval Academy in Annapolis Md. in 1949. He spent several years serving in the Korean War as commander of an LST. He served one tour of duty at the Pentagon in Washington D. C. during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He also served on the USSWright which was the first U.S. aircraft carrier to be converted into a floating communications station. Jim later spent 2 years on the island of Malta while serving with HAFMED (Headquarters of the Allied Forces in the Mediterranean).While serving his last tour of duty Jim attended the University of Maryland and completed his Master's Degree in History in 1967. In 1968 Jim retired from the military and moved to Sanford FL where he taught at the Sanford Naval Academy. Later he taught history at Sanford Middle School and at Seminole Junior College. In 1987 he had a log cabin built in the mountains of North Georgia with a view of Blood Mountain and close to the Appalachian Trail. Jim and Mary enjoyed many summers and falls in those mountains returning to Daytona each winter and spring. Jim loved music and he loved to sing. During the time he spent in Daytona he sang with the Surfside Chorus a local group of barbershop singers. He participated in many of their Christmas and Easter programs. Jim is survived by his beloved wife Mary McManus Reddick; 2 daughters Terry Hammond and Patricia George; his son James Peter Reddick III; his grandchildren Christie Henderson Allison Hammond and Charles "Wesley" Ackley; his great-grandson Ian Henderson; his sister and brother-in-law Bernice and Edwin Wood; his brother and sister-in-law Ray and Sue Reddick and many grand nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday January 16th at our Lady of Hope Catholic Church Port Orange FL.In lieu of flowers please make donations to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler County. Jim daddy granddad and great-granddad will be greatly missed by all of us. His storytelling and sense of humor were legend in the family.
